Saturday XI Match Reports 2010

South Weald v Margaretting Saturday 29th May 2010

South Weald II 195-9 beat Margaretting 109 all out by 86 runs

Normal service resumed on the weather front - another cold, dark, wet and windy day. Having won the toss, asking the oppo to bat seemed the right option but South Weald got off to a good start with Burke top scoring with 82 and Imbert making 45. Heavy rain reduced to the match to 37 overs a side. After the openers had gone, wickets fell steadily and Weald finished on 195-9. Olly G took 4-42 off 12 and on his return Mike Hodgson 2-35.

A steady start saw us at 82-2, Pres making 29 Buck 13 Olly G 22 and Danny 15, but we were never up with the required rate. The introduction of the leg spinner Aquila saw a collapse after that; he finished with 7-19 off 9. MCC all out for 109.

Margaretting v South Woodham Ferrers Saturday 22nd May 2010

Margaretting 247-7 beat South Woodham Ferrers II 147ao by 100 runs

A good toss to win on a baking hot day, and MCC chose to bat. The top of the order were all amongst the runs; Pres top scored with 59 ably assisted by Buck 16, Rodders 26, James B 20 and Colin W 44no. Chris R adding 33 at the end. MCC finishing on 247-7, aided by 46 extras.

In reply SWF were all out for 147 in 37 overs. After losing 3 early wkts, SWF staged a recovery with a good stand between Stuart 39 and Patient 38. Once the stand was broken, wickets fell regularly; Colin with 5-34 off 12 and Lee 3-42 off 11 doing the damage. Danny Warrilow sealed victory with his maiden wicket for the club.

Southend EM & T II v Margaretting Saturday 15th May 2010

Margaretting 142-4 beat Southend EM & T II by 6 wkts

After a start delayed by horrendous traffic problems, MCC took the field in the usual dark and cold conditions. Steady bowling kept the run rate down to 2.5/over at the half way mark, with the oppo losing only 1 wkt at this point. After drinks, wickets fell regularly as they pushed to increase the rate. Lee finishing with 5-33 and Pres 3-26. An excellent spell from Chris P, 0-28 off 12, deserved better. Rodders also chipped in with a wkt. SEMT were all out for 139 in 45 overs, Fessey top scored with a watchful 35.

After tea the sun shone, as did our batting. Despite some good accurate bowling, James B 58no and Chris R 6no saw us past their total with 9 overs to spare. Double figure contributions from Bellars, Buck, Rod and Lee laid the foundations for the winning total.

Writtle v Margaretting Saturday 1st May 2010

MCC 125-9 (45 overs) lost to Writtle II 126-9 (44.1 overs) by 1 wkt

After losing the toss, MCC were asked to bat. On a slow damp track and against accurate bowling runs were hard to come by, Buck and Rodders putting on 40 in 19 overs before a traditional middle order collapse saw us at 64-7 with 11 to go. Super knock from the skipper ably assisted by OG and Robbo saw us to 125-9, Lee finishing on 45no.

That total was never going to be easy to get, as was proved by great opening spells from Chris P (3-18)and Willy (2-28). Steady rain made the ball hard to grip but wickets fell regularly. OG (2-38) and Robbo (2-13) continued the good work. Heavy rain made the conditions even more difficult but in a very tense finish, Writtle scraped home in the last over.

Always disappointing to lose such a close game but a great effort chaps!

Sunday XI Match Reports 2010

Margaretting v Stock Sunday 30th May 2010

Margaretting 126-6 beat Stock 125 all out by 4 wkts

Stock won the toss and chose to bat. Excellent bowling from all concerned, Olly G with another haul of 4-25, DG 3-19, Jack 1-12 and Will 1-10. Lee might have had a wicket but chose not to risk a collision with Chris Jones in the middle of the pitch - very wise indeed! Boxer 41 and King 30 top scored for Stock who finished on 125 all out.

A shaky start to the chase at 21 for 3. But Bucky, batting throughout the innings for a leisurely 28no, and Lee, an excellent 51 off 32 balls before retiring hurt, got us close to the target. Chris J chipped in with 18 at the end and MCC won by 4 wkts.

Margaretting v South Weald Sunday 23rd May 2010

South Weald 227-5 (40 overs) beat Margaretting 214-5 (40 overs) by 13 runs

Another scorcher, and South Weald chose to bat. After a big opening stand from Imbert 98 and Hull 79, a huge target looked on the cards but to their credit, SW gave some of the youngsters a chance and posted a final total of 227. Luke Seager took a career best 3-28.

At 25-3 that target looked a long way off but cometh the hour, cometh the man! Dave Glasson putting his previous scores of 2,1no,2 and 0 and threatened retirement behind him and after scoring his first half century off just 36 balls caressed his way to a mammoth 93no! A stand of 115 with Will, who made 47, got us back on target but in the end finished just short. Pick of the bowling was Hull 3-26 and the ever reliable Eddy Pickton with 1-16 off 8. A great game of cricket!

Mountnessing v Margaretting Sunday 16th May 2010

Margaretting 214 all out Mountnessing 37-1 Match abandoned

The usual run fest that this fixture has produced looked like continuing on Sunday. Excellent contributions from ’Dangerous’ O. Glasson 17, Colin Wade 37, Rod 63 and Buck 34no set the scene for a biggish score but from 99-1 and 187-4, MCC collapsed to 214 all out. There was some fine bowling from the young Mountnessing attack, with D. Chapman taking 4 wkts in 5 balls to close the innings.

The rain then fell during tea and after a delayed start Mountnessing made 37-1 before conditions became unplayable. Chapman finished on 22no, Lee took the only wicket to fall.
